What is EMDR Therapy?

HEALING THE MIND FROM TRAUMA AND PTSD

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative form of treatment used to address trauma, PTSD, and other mental health conditions.

The brain doesn't always process trauma completely. When this happens, you're left dealing with lasting impacts. You might feel stuck or unable to move on because the memory is affecting your functioning, relationships, or well-being. EMDR helps your brain reprocess distressing experiences, lessening their effects and alleviating symptoms. Online EMDR therapy simply means that you’ll receive this type of treatment via video call sessions instead of in person.

How does EMDR work?

HOW IT HELPS YOUR BRAIN HEAL

So, how does EMDR actually work? It uses eye movements or tapping to trigger something called bilateral stimulation while you think about the trauma. This is similar to what your brain does during REM sleep when it processes everything that's happening in your life.

The goal of EMDR is to reduce the power that trauma or distressing experiences have over your life. It doesn't erase those painful memories, but it helps your brain reprocess them, so they no longer trigger intense emotions or control you. By addressing the negative beliefs tied to these memories, EMDR opens the door to new ways of thinking and lasting healing.

And the best part? With online EMDR therapy, you can access these benefits from the comfort of your home or wherever you feel most at ease!

  • I am an In-Network provider with UnitedHealthcare, Optum, and Oxford Heath. I do not take other forms of insurance at this time. • The beginning of therapy will be a lot of information gathering during the first and possibly second session to help us determine the direction of your treatment plan. My goal is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space, where you feel safe and comfortable to share about your experiences. I will facilitate and guide our sessions while taking your input, preferences, strengths, and goals into account.

You can expect to have space to share without judgment and support as you explore yourself, relationships, past experiences, and what you want out of life.

  • The therapeutic relationship is built on trust, and it will take time for us to cultivate that in our work together. Please know that my goal is to provide you with supportive, honest, and compassionate care throughout the duration of your treatment.

We will proceed through exploration at the speed at which you’re comfortable with. That’s not to say that there won’t be times in therapy when your courage and vulnerability will be requested. But I won’t push you to talk about areas of your life that you’re not ready or willing to discuss. We’ll go at your pace.

  • Under federal law, health care providers must provide patients who don’t have health insurance or are not using insurance with an estimate of their bill for health care services before those services are provided. This estimate is called a Good Faith Estimate.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of services upon request or when scheduling services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate in a way that is accessible to you.

You have the right to have your provider explain the estimate to you upon request.

You have the right to dispute a bill for services that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers or call 1- 800-985-3059.
